Transfers from College or Community College
What have you learned about yourself since leaving high school?
- Reflection: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome". (Einstein) We will explore school, work and other experiences post-high school to gather data pro-con re post-high school experiences to add to the upcoming Search process.
- Organized: Timelines and checklists to guide the Self-Search, College-Search and Application processes. Individualized "LAST TWELVE MONTHS" planning sheet with time and tasks scheduled for timely completion of applications.
- Explore College Academic Majors / Minors / Internship opportunities. Reflect on the pros-cons of post-secondary classes you have completed. Continue to explore interesting majors. Learn what your career might look like with each degree.
- Actively Explore Interests During a Gap in your Education: Colleges like a transfer applicant who demonstrates the ability devise and execute a plan exploring a passion. Time is precious. Don't waste a minute. HSC will help you fill your "Gap Year".
- Self-Search: Practice recognizing activities and subjects that interest you. Guidance finding your current and perhaps lifelong passions. Encouragement to explore interests and passions by doing. Learning Assessments designed to identify your individual learning strengths and strategies to use those strengths to bolster success in areas of relative weakness.
- Colleges that MATCH yourSELF: HSC assists with identification of colleges that match and embrace your learning styles, academic and career interest, hobbies and other life interests whether entirely new or merely "tweaked".
- Colleges Where You Can Grow and Change: Statistics show that college students change their majors on average three times. HSC assists students in identifying THREE academic majors. HSC assists student with identification of colleges with respected programs in the identified majors.
- College Visits: Individualized program to explore campuses and college life. VISIT. VISIT. VISIT. You wouldn't buy a car without test-driving many models and college is MUCH more expensive than most cars. A visit is an official admissions tour, not a drive-by. HSC will devise a plan to minimize the cost of these visits and maximize their usefulness.
- College Search: Data-driven College List . HSC identifies individualized academic, extracurricular and social requirements for college. HSC processes data from college visits to generalize to other colleges. HSC identifies colleges with admission criteria that are a MATCH for your student's strenghths, passions, interests and personal style.
- Powerful Application Strategy: With admissions officers spending no more than 10-15 minutes per application, the success of an application depends upon it presenting a clear and consistent picture of WHO the student is and WHO the student will be in college. My process is derived from strategies for "branding" a product.
- Powerful Application Essays (12-16 per student): Proven process to identify and tell your student's story, "brand" your student. Essay prompts are designed to require serious, self-reflection. HSC breaks college essay HARD questions into smaller, easier pieces, more manageable for high school seniors. Training with reading prompts, answering the prompt with grammatically correct, concise and inviting essays--skills needed for college essays as well.
